We recently partnered with a global top 10 law firm to lead two projects aimed at accelerating the safe adoption of AI within their operations.

In the first project, we worked closely with the firm to strategically prioritise AI investments by focusing on high-impact use cases. In the second, we developed a legal research chatbot to streamline their research function, freeing up lawyers’ time to focus on what matters most – delivering exceptional value to clients.

Background

The law firm recognised that they weren’t able to achieve their desired efficiencies using off the shelf AI tools. Equally, addressing security, privacy and ethical concerns that come with using AI in a sensitive setting is a top priority for the law firm. Therefore, they partnered with Faculty to build a bespoke solution, tailored to their business needs, data and processes.

Solution

We adopted a systematic approach to identify, evaluate and prioritise use cases based on feasibility, safety and their ability to create differentiating value. To ensure the deployments of these use cases were a success, we also provided expert advice on organisational technical and capability requirements.

Our strategy work identified an opportunity to gain differentiating competitive advantage by building bespoke applications that worked with proprietary precedent and legal knowledge base systems. We began with top-priority use cases, starting with replacing the law firm’s outdated search tool with a legal knowledge chatbot.

The chatbot swiftly retrieves relevant research from the firm’s knowledge base, engaging users conversationally and drafting initial communications, to speed up case preparation and boost efficiency. This innovation ensures that lawyers are able to benefit from in-house knowledge and expertise, speeding up case preparation.

Impact

With the bank of use cases carefully curated, the firm unlocked vital investment to further develop their priority AI use cases.

The chatbot we developed dramatically reduces the time lawyers spend on research and case preparation. It not only cuts billable hours for clients but also enables lawyers to focus on more strategic, high-value work. With easier access to a vast array of data, the firm’s research capabilities will be significantly enhanced, unlocking the full potential of their knowledge repository.

“GenAI is going to transform the legal sector. This law firm’s commitment to embrace the change to benefit its clients has been impressive.”
